The Secret Solution To A Great Protein Shake

By Darius Clements

The secret to a really ripping good protein shake lies in your ability to match taste with health benefits.

Often meal replacement powders are littered with awful "maltodextrin" as their carb portion, but unfortunately this high glycemic carbohydrate has a G.I rating of over 100 - Alarm bells anyone? White sugar is around 70!

A great meal replacement shake needs protein, low G.I carbohydrates and good fats, as well as vitamins, minerals and fiber - Unfortunately there just isn't a powdered replacement on the market that covers all those important basis - None at all.

If you want a job done well - You've got to do it yourself, luckily I've got a couple of tips to help you get the best and tastiest protein shake available.

Step 1

Pick your protein.

Whey, soy, it doesn't matter (although whey is better) as long as it's what you're comfortable with.

Step 2

Find a carb source that liquifies.

Here's where many people fail to optimise a great shake, oats, grains and legumes are great carbs but they don't blend well. Fruit on the other hand is good but apples and oranges are the best and again - They don't blend so well.

A wonderful solution is Oatmilk - This has become the mainstay of my protein shakes.

Oatmilk is the best low G.I carbohydrate in liquid form, no more chunky pulpy pieces of fruit or grains in your protein drink.

Step 3

Vitamin and minerals

Crush your own vitamin tab and add it to your shake and blend - It should disolve and be tasteless.

Step 4

Throw in some berries.

For color, texture, taste and antioxidants, berries finish of the complete protein shake with a bang.

Making your own protein drink from scratch is not only the best, healthiest way to go, you'll probably save a few dollars in the long run as well.
